 Punjab CM asks center to repeal three farm laws and bring new ones to end the farmer protests

CHANDIGARH: Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh today urged the center government to repeal three agriculture laws and sit with farmers to enact new laws.

Addressing a press conference here on competion of four years of his government, Capt Amarinder Singh said that repealing three farm laws was only solution to end the farmer protests. He said that it would be national interest to found a solution to the farmer's protest. He said that agriculture was a state subject and it was constitutionally wrong for the center government to bring laws on farming.

Capt marinder Singh also objected to centralisation of powers by center government and eroding the authority of elected state governments. He said that it was a threat to democracy. He said that federal system was getting dilluted.

Citing serious threat to national security, Capt Amarinder Singh said that Pakistan had increased movement of drones carrying ammunition into Punjab. He said that Pakistan wanted to keep us engaged in Kashmir and Punjab. He said that Punjab had intercepted many drones and seized large quantity of arms and ammunition. He said that Punjab Police and BSF were working together to prevent smuggling of arms and drugs.

Chief Minister said that his government would not allow any seprratist elements Khalistani or some other groups to run their activities from Punjab. He said that his goveernment had ensured that peace prevailed in state. He added that this was biggest achievement of his government. People of Punjab wanted to live in peace so that their businesses flourish and communal harmony continued.

Capt Amarinder Singh opposed regionalism and said that he was against fixing jobn quota for residents of state. He said that Haryana and Himaachal Pradesh have done it which is is against national interests. He said that if he would also do it, it would harm nore people of Punjab. He said that India was one and our policies shall also repersent this spirit.

Capt Amarinder Singh said that situation on Covid front was very critical in Punjab and he would be taking certain strict measures to control the virus after meeting with experts tomorrow. He however said that nine districts of Punjab where night curfew is in force from 11 PM to 6 AM, the curfew will now start from 9 PM. He said that yesterday 2022 new cases were detected and 35 people had died. He said that people must follow the protection protocol and wear masks, sash hands.
